Yii2.1 was made instead of Yii3
Yii 2.1 is in preparations and will break compatibility but if you’re on PHP 7, updating will be possible. Upgrade notes will be available when 2.1 will be released.
So it appears Yii 2.1 is going to be Yii 3.0, but no official announcement has been made of this change?
Yes. There’s ongoing experiment that would define the form in which 3.0 will be released.
