I’m in the process of starting conversions from Yii 1.1 to Yii 2.
Since there are major changes between the two versions, and the end of maintenance support for Yii 1.1 at the end of this year, I’m curious as to the life expectancy of Yii 2’s codebase. Is there a major release in the foreseeable future, or will the development focus on minor updates (seeing as Yii 1 only saw one minor update)?
I cannot speak for the dev team but they work continuously on the Yii 2 so it looks like project will be updated all the time at least for a few next years. You can see the milestones planned for it here https://github.com/yiisoft/yii2/milestones
We’re now focused on polishing 2.0.x and improving infrastructure: website, docs etc. There are some plans for 2.1.x but we haven’t started it yet. 2.1.x won’t be as breaking as 1.1 → 2.0 anyway.
i like yii 2 alot. it is actually a lot easier to use than yii 1. Thanks for great works.
